Albania and Montenegro 2.

Coming to Albania.

My route will take me from Hot to Bashkimi along a road that follows the northwestern border of the country. From the village Hot the road ascends about 13 km quite steeply to the begining of Rrapsh Serpentine. After that, there is a steep descent into the Cemi River Valley and still few kilometers more or less flat to a village called Tamarë. I will spend couple of nights in Tamarë. After the rest I continue through Selcë and Lepush to Bashkim and further back to Montenegro. The road runs from Tamarë up and further up until I come to Bashkim. After that to Montenegro it is just downhill.

Nënë Tereza; Hot, Albania.

Mother Teresa blesses travelers, who are aiming to this mountainous road. The road itself is in very good condition. It is very hot and humid and no wind at all.

Rrapsh Serpentine, Albania.

Until now, the bike had to be pushed most of the way, but from here begins a steep downhill to the river level. The walls of the mountains obscure the sunshine and I enjoy the wonderful cool air flow.

After three nights in Tamarë the journey continues towards Bashkimi. Again up and up, so most of the way I have to push my bike. Fortunately, the scenery rewards my efforts and it isn't so hot anymore in these hights.

Further up from Selcë towards Bashkim, Albania.

Somewhere here small stones are coming down from the slopes.

Back to Montenegro. Bashkim, Albania.

It was steep downhill in the Vermoshi River Valley ever since Bashkimi to the border station, but in Montenegro the valley becomes broader and dowhill is less steep. Still Vermoshi River on the right side to Gusinje. After that the road follows Luca River to Plav and from Plav to Berane Lim River. Nearly sixty kilometers downhill. It made my day!

From Berane starts again upphill to Lokve Tunnel. Weather has been good as you can see from the pictures. Sunny, but not too hot.

On the top. Through the tunnel down to Rožaje, Montenegro.

From Lokve Tunnel downhill to Rozaje. After that you will go upp again, but not too much, and the landscape turns really beautiful. The road follows Ibar River, which is streaming in a steep gorge and on the other side is the mountain wall. Yes, here upp it is very beautiful, however the road sides are quite dirty. They have been ever since Berane. Empty plastic bottles, plastic bags, plastic food packaging, etc., in some places real rubbish dumps. I think plastic bags and bottles should really be banned. Maybe you don't notice all the shit on road sides, when you travel by car. Not only here, but also in other places.

So spectacular scenery, but road sides are so dirty.

Goodbye Montenegro.
